Buying Nano – what is the best way?

There is no single best way. It depends on whether you need Nano to pay, whether you can live with price swings, and how much effort you want. Here are the ways at a glance. XNO or Ӿ is the short sign for Nano.

1 · The ways

Buy once

You buy one amount in one go. Simple, but the rate on that day decides: if you buy just before a drop, you start at a loss.

The same amount regularly (DCA)

DCA (dollar-cost averaging) means buying at fixed intervals, for example every week, always for the same amount. At a low rate you get more Nano, at a high rate less. Your purchase price evens out and you do not have to pick the "right" moment. It does not guarantee a gain.

Keep a reserve in NanUSD, swap to XNO when needed

You hold a reserve in NanUSD and swap to Nano only when you pay, or when the rate has fallen and you want to buy cheaper. This is the way the page At a loss – what now? describes for paying.

Accumulation bot

An accumulation bot automatically buys small amounts by fixed rules, for example daily or at certain prices. It is DCA without any effort of your own. No offer for this specifically for Nano has been verified; none is named here. With any provider, check who holds the keys: if your Nano sits with the provider, you carry custodian risk.

2 · NanUSD as a hedge

NanUSD is a stablecoin, a digital dollar on the Nano network: 1 NanUSD is meant to be worth 1 US dollar. It protects you from Nano price swings. It does not protect you from inflation: over the years the dollar loses purchasing power, and so does a reserve held in NanUSD.

Risk: According to the provider, NanUSD is backed by dollar holdings (USDC) kept by the swap service Nanswap. If the custodian fails or NanUSD loses its link to the dollar, money can be lost. There is a public proof of reserves; no independent audit of the backing is mentioned.

3 · Costs

Swap NanUSD ↔ XNO: Nanswap charges no fee, only a price gap (spread): the difference between buy and sell rate. It varies with liquidity. Sending on the Nano network costs nothing.

Buying via an exchange or mobile money: fees apply and differ by provider. A comparison is on Fees.

4 · Tax note (Germany)

Every purchase starts its own holding period. When you sell or pay, each wallet is settled "oldest first" (FIFO). A swap from NanUSD to XNO can also matter for tax, because it can be treated like a sale. This is not tax advice; other countries and details are in the guide.

5 · How NanoTracker helps

Advertising: if you swap via the Nanswap link, NanoTracker receives a small commission. The price does not change for you.

No investment advice. This is not a recommendation to buy, hold or sell Nano. NanUSD and the swap come from third parties.

With the way that suits you, you pay calmly and keep an overview – NanoTracker does the sums for you.
